The Dark Room

There is a room in my house where I go when it gets bad.

Dark curtains.

No sound.

The door closed.

Just me and the pain, waiting for it to pass.

Most people in my life have never seen that room.

They know I have bad days.

But they do not know what a bad day actually looks like.

They do not know about the hours I spend in there.

The way time moves differently when you are just enduring.

The way you stop thinking about anything except getting through the next hour.

The way the world outside the door keeps going — people laughing, phones ringing, life happening — and you are just lying there, completely removed from all of it.

I do not talk about the dark room much.

Because I do not want people to worry.

Because I do not want to seem dramatic.

Because some things are too hard to explain.

But it is real.

And it is part of my life.

And I think a lot of people who live with pain have a dark room of their own.

If you have a dark room, you are not alone. Many people living with chronic pain, migraines, or fibromyalgia know exactly what this feels like.

BioBreathing was created for the moments before the dark room — and for the recovery after. Gentle, guided breathing to help the nervous system find its way back toward calm.
